Charles S. DeFrance spent 29 years in federal law enforcement as both a Firearms-Toolmarks Examiner and a Special Agent. During that time he amassed 28 years of crime scene experience working a wide variety of scene types and violations.

DeFrance has worked 10 mass shooting scenes, bombings, kidnappings, homicides, clandestine graves, and much more. This experience has spanned not just the nation, but the globe. This experience means that DeFrance has dealt with all types of challenges and learned the skills to overcome them and to do so in a manner that is both scientifically rigorous and legally admissible.

DeFrance has also demonstrated leadership in the wider forensic community through training law enforcement from federal, state, local, and international agencies; leadership with international forensic organizations; published research in forensics and engineering journals; and development of forensic science standards in crime scene investigation and reconstruction.
